I hope Schnoppy, Bree and all the other precious rescued fluffers learn that they have no need to fear another second of their lives and that their present families will do everything possible to keep them safe, healthy, and happy.
That's beautiful Twila. I hope the very same thing.  begging
And in time, I think they will know that, and hopefully put the awful part of
their lives behind them. heart

What Twila said about hoping Happy 2 rescued fluffs fluff-boy fluff-girl being happy swing
(in Ken's thread about retained (bad) memories sad) made me, and YES, Terri too, teary-eyed! Blow Nose

So, to 'celebrate' the new lease of life swing that rescued fluffs are having

I'm doing a ROLL CALL clapping of fluffs fluff rescued from
the street/pound/shelter sadangel or puppymill/backyard breeder Jail Bird 2.

Just state your fluff's name, rescued (ie. forever home) date and I'll compile a list! Yeah

PS: If you haven't already, you might like to read/share your rescued fluff's story in this
arrow Chicken Soup for the Rescued Bichon Lover's Soul thread thumbsup

PS: Debra, do you have any idea confused how old Waldo fluff is?
Did the local humane society say or was your vet able to ascertain (say from his teeth)?

The vet at the humane society said he was four, the vet we took him to in Fl said two.  We just moved and the new vet said his teeth were pretty rough, maybe from eating garbage on the street and said it was safe to say he was a young adult.  I call him three.

Hi Eddel,

Thanks for creating this category.  Schnoppy is a rescue from a metropolitan animal control site. City governed, and sadly still working towards a no-kill policy.  The vets say Perfesser is two-three years of age. I like to think of him as a pup - ageless like Peter Pan.

Ken - I love my little Perfesser!

addition: We brought Schnoppy home on September 2006.  Cheers.

I'm sure I've told you all before but Baxter we got as a pup from what turned out to be a BROKER. Sad  Didnt realize it at the time but his papers say he came from "lambriar" so...it's pretty safe to guess he was from a mill.
Sophia...Sophia's former family "didnt have room for her in their lives anymore" so they had filled out the papers to turn her over to a rescue.  Being local I could get to her before the rescue could, so she told me to come and "meet her" when I got there she had all her stuff packed up in a bag by the door. She came home with me about an hour later, we stopped on the way home and bought a collar (harness type since I was told she hated collars...btw when I take her collar off now to vathe her she mopes until I offer her her "jingles" back!  I think she thinks she's ours so long as she has her collar!)
Sophia was 6 1/2 when we adopted her, and it was probably one of the best decisions we've ever made. Smiley

Maurice was rescued from an animal shelter on Dec. 07,2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada

His birthdate is November 15,2000...his sire was A&J's Robbie and his Dam was A&J's Roxanne.  He was born in Goodman, Mo.

He now lives pampered and loved in Boonville, Indiana and Las Vegas, Nevada.

I will tell "his story" at the Soup link.

Can't do all the fancy stuff (but I hope to learn) -  3 of my 4 little ones are rescues.  2 - Poppy (bichon bolognese) aged 5+ and Bengy aged 3 who is ginormous came from the breed rescue in the UK.  Titch (cause she is small) aged about 5ish give or take came from Warrington Animal Rescue in Manchester. She was a stray - underweight, matted etc.
All are wonderful dogs - and have braved adversity in their own way.  Got also to give credit to Pepe dog who (well wecomed them is not the right word) allowed them into our home.

I love them all

fluffthankyou  Just goes to show - I should have read more thoroughly!

Titch arrived in our lives on 28th February when we drove down to Warrington near Manchester  to pick her up and bring her home.  Bengy and Poppy actually have birthdays - Poppy is 19th March and Bengy is 25th August.  I will have to look up their Forever Home Days - confession of a lax Mother I am afraid.

Hilary became ours on 11-13-07.  She is a product of a divorce--from friends of ours.  She was passed around to several different people....we really did not want 3 dogs-but just could not stand it any longer.  We had not seen her for 9 months when we finally picked her up--it was so sad-she was not the dog we once knew.   So she was probably not what you categorize as a rescue....but we called it that.   When we finally picked her up for my friends ex she was a mess ( covered with fleas, dark brown in color, had been scissor cut and covered in mats.)  I felt like crying when I picked her up.
Well.....she is in a happy, stable home now--and getting all kinds of attention and love.   She has to squeeze herself in with Maggie and Roxy as they were so bonded.  They wanted to exclude her at first -  they had such a tightness between them.   She is slowly working her way in....
We do not regret taking her at all.

I've wanted a bichon for as long as I can remember.  After finally settling down and no longer having to travel for work, I got busy on the internet looking for a bichon to adopt.  After about 2 months of looking around, I saw Kari and her littermate up for adoption at Bichon Furkids here in Southern California.  2 males and 2 females.  They were so chunky and cute.  I knew I wanted one of those puppies.  My application was approved and I took Kari home March 18th.  yahoo  Her foster mom told me that her litter was "an accident."  Well, she is definitely no accident to me.  I love her to pieces.  inlove

Hi everyone! First I want to extend my great appreciation to all rescuers... it takes a big heart to do what we do.
I rescued my little girl Nov 8 from a "breeder" here in Alberta. She was in appalling conditions and is scared of everything. Just today she went up and down the stairs without being coaxed, and didn't fight her leash (in her 7 years she had never been on one, or had a collar). She also finally started eating properly last night. Her coat was matted and greasy, but after a bath I could see her beautiful white coat. She was bred her whole life... well as soon as they could start her. They were giving her away and I was more than happy to take her. I have not just adopted her... she has claimed me, too. I don't know if it is because I was the one who picked her up and took her out of that place, or because I just sit there with her and pet her and talk to her... but she is most comfortable with me. She has come a long way in the last 3 days, and I think she is a great addition to my family.

This is so great to see people rescuing dogs!  I adopted Skye when he was 2 years old. He lived with a family who had him since he was a puppy. But when he turned 2, a human baby was added to the family and he "had to go". Sad   So he is not really a "rescue" but he is adopted and I love him so much!  I felt so sorry for him though when he lost his family,so I would bring him to them to visit once in a while but he adjusted so quickly and then didn't want to leave me. When I moved to a house, I thought the best people to watch him that day for me were his old owners so I asked them if they could watch him and they were happy to watch him for me that weekend, but, he got depressed and wouldn't eat. Sad Awww. He missed me. Funny I missed him so much too and kept thinking about him while I was moving. We make a great team. :LOL  I'm just glad to know he is happy even though I didn't have him since he was a puppy.

Denny was surrendered by his owner (who said he was a stray) on Feb 25th in Quebec. He was badly matted on his legs and belly, but they said he looked recently groomed and well cared for. He came to Toronto the next day and was given his shots. He was moved to his foster home in Niagara Falls on Feb 27th.

I contacted Happy Tails Rescue on Feb 27th, thinking it would take months. The very next day they contacted me about Denny!

We filled out the application and submitted it on March 1st, got approved immediately and they brought Denny to our home on March 7th. We signed the papers for him that day, and he became ours.

They think he is around one year old, so his birthday will be one year before coming to his forever home - March 7, 2009.

O-oh, Sky looks so sweet!

Yes, Denny is adapting well, except for some vomiting - for perhaps the jitters.

He seemed nervous at first, when we would go out in the car, not the ride, but I think he was afraid we were taking him somewhere else. He rides well in the car, but I could see the fear in his eyes.

He is always so happy when we come back home! fluff

He started blitzing the second day here, so I figure he is happy!

We rarely get companion/toy dogs up for adoption here. I put my name down with the SPCA and our own shelter but they told me it was almost a hopeless cause. I would have been very happy to take a rescue but it was not to be. Its great however its so rare to get them surrendered.

Just adding Dexter to the list - adopted May 15/10 from the Toronto Animal Services South Division. He is Bichon, a stray and about 1-3 years old, though they are thinking the younger side.

I was hoping to get another Bichon, and occasionally looked thru the offering in Petfinder. I looked on Thursday evening and he wasn't there, so they must have just  uploaded his listing on Friday, when I saw it. We rushed right down the next morning, for fear someone else would get him before us. They said he had been picked up by Animal Services two weeks ago, but no-one ever came to claim him.

When I got him, he was cut right down, so I assume he was badly matted, and he is barely more than skin and bones. He only weighs about 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs) and needs some fattening up.

Thank you for recognizing how important it is to give any dog a second chance and lots of  Love word  We adopted a sweet little Bichon girl on December 18th, 2010 who had been rescued from a puppy mill in Erie, Ohio (we live in a small town very north of Toronto, Ontario so feel so lucky we got her from such a distance).  We don't know how old she is (she was in terrible shape and had to have many teeth pulled) but we love her so.  Her name is Willow (we call her Willy to go with our other Bichon, Reilly and our blind Schnoodle, Daffy--short for Daphne) and she has started to accept that we love her but is extremely skittish and just not sure.  I'm sure she was abused as well as severely neglected, of course, since she won't let us pet her.  She's coming along nicely though in so many ways; it is heartwarming to see her progress.  She was our little Christmas angelwings so her middle name is Noelle.  Any suggestions on helping her along would be appreciated.

I've done Bichon rescue for about 9 years. I average 40 rescue dogs through my house per year. I LOVE these little fluffers !!!  I have 2 Bichons from breeders and three rescued Bichons. Currently I am up to 9 dogs and it's hectic, but wonderful Smiley

Madison came to me straight from a Puppy Mill Rescue at age 6 in 2010.  She is the love of my life, a healthy happy girl now who plays with her two big doggie friends, a Rottie and a hound.  She was racing around in the snow today making us all laugh at her zest for life.

I rescued Bentley in January 2011 He is 3 but was the the stud at a puppy-mill that we were able to shut down in Texas. He never got to be in the grass or loved.  It's been a hard transition for him to trust. But now he is the most amazing, start and loyal guy around. He is my baby!  Laugh and Bounce

Bridget & Daisy

« Reply #76 on: December 27, 2013, 02:39:33 AM »

Daisy [either her previous name or the name the shelter gave her - we kept it as tribute] came to her forever home June 20, 2013 from Orange County Animal Services in Chapel Hill, NC. The shelter said she was 5, my vet says 8. We decided 5 suits us more [so we can have more time] and give her birthday as July 4th.
She was surrendered by an elderly man's daughter along with with two other dogs in a poor state, a male adopted out his first day and a female miniature poodle adopted just minutes before we signed the paper work for her on June 19th. I am so grateful and know that if I had been even 1 minute later arriving to the shelter, I would have not gotten to meet my best friend. I looked for her for months, searching online for the perfect companion and I couldn't have ended up with a better dog for me.  Boy Bichon
