A large part of the Bichon Frise's attraction is undoubtedly it's plush, white coat.  Made even more appealing with expert grooming as you see in show ring.  American powderpuff or French au naturel, there's no denying that a good scissoring (or clipping) job will bring out your fluff's best side

(some members will say the bedhead or messy look is just as scrummylicious and I must say I agree )

But for those (especially ) members who are bringing their fluffs to professional groomers (eg: for that very first time), or thinking of (home)grooming their flufferbutts themselves, and wanna see freshly-groomed flufferbutts, check out the following threads .

I the freshly groomed look and smell.
It's my favorite!
I get conflicting opinions on how often to bathe, (Belle, not me) so we just go with when she becomes
"Smelly Bellie" (well, I guess that does apply to me as well)
I'm gonna browse through the links to refresh my memory.

When I first got Riley I loved his scruffy look and swore to never cut his fur.    Due to his thick coat it became a nightmare to comb and he got so hot in summer so I took the plunge and scissor cut him.    I have watched myself change from someone who wanted the scruffy look to someone who loves it more and more each cut that he looks more like the plushy version.    I think each fluff lends themselves to their own personal look.     Riley just seems to have grown in to his bichon shape, his fro just came so easy.    I never even though I would cut his ears short but now I love them shorter.

Hey, it's a woman's perogative to change her mind right!  .... I'm wondering if it also has something to do with the puppy coat vs. the adult coat.  ... I'm thinking that when they are a puppy ... their ears are naturally a bit longer and they have that cute "scruffy" look ... but as their adult coat comes in .... sometimes it doesn't "scruff up" as cute anymore.  ... I'm just thinking this because I've just noticed with  Buddy, that he seems to have more "puppy like" hair (don't know  if it will change or not) and there is  no way I could ever get him "poofed"  , and frankly kinda like him a bit "scruffy" with his coat the way it is.  .. but if his coat does change ... I'll get him "fro'd"  pronto!

You all know that's what I always wanted, so as my luck would dictate, it'll prolly not happen.
Honestly though, at this point, I'm so crazy in love with Belle, she could be bald and it would make no difference to me.

Terri I seriously don't think Belle would be Belle with a poofy head  , I for one just love her beautiful luscious whispy curls and fluff top.       And you sumed it up she is just so perfectly Belle.   Riley just grew in to his fro  which is what makes him Riley,   I seriously wanted a Boogie or a Cheeko, or a Belle  , but I got Riley and like you feel I feel about Riley  , we are all just lucky I reckon.

You do know Bianca didn't start off with a poofie head (no siree!)

And if memory serves me right (and I'm always right ) Belle did have the beginnings of a fro goin' on after a trip to Nikki's (that thread where I said some of her most beautiful shots are in.... not that she isn't beautiful in others ..... but the pics I'm referring to were taken outdoors, with great natural light et al! ).

I love that freshly groomed look too, whether it's a professional job or one of their Mommy's "in between" jobs.  Like Terri, I'm wondering if my Callie is ever gonna grow a fro.  She looks poofy right after a grooming, but her fro seems to just melt very quickly.  Her hair is so much softer than Cassie's, it's still very puppy soft.  At one point I thought she was getting her adult coat, but now it seems like she's stuck and it's not changing anymore.  It really doesn't matter whether she gets all poofy or not, I love her either way.

Karen , I'll say what I said to Terri..... your baby's (wo)manfro will come in!  Today I was going through some 'early' pics of Bianca and she didn't have a good (wo)manfro during her yearling too!    From what I remember of your girls' last photo thread (which was such a long time ago *hint*) they were looking very pretty and very good!

Lucia, for posting a pic!     I thought Murphy's first grooming was the 'clipping' you gave him?  This (pic) was the first visit to the groomer I presume?
