My puppy bichon is ten months old and is getting his adult coat  ;D. I find it really hard trying to get the knots out, they are only under his chin and around ears . One  day we work on the knots next day they are back. My husband has always got the knots out for me. We brush him every day and bath him once a week with regular grooms. Is there any easy way to get them out. Would love some advice Smiley Thank you Gayaleen mitchell

Hi Gayaleen

My Mum has to brush her bichons every day. She uses a wire brush specially designed for dealing with matted fur followed by a comb. She got the brush from her local pet store.

By the way, the probiotic powder worked wonders on Mum's older bichon, she acts more like a puppy than the puppy does now!

Best wishes

I use a comb and sometimes a wire brush.  My pooch is  afraid of the wire brush, she acts like it hurts her.  Another trouble area is under there arm pits, mats can easily start here.

 Use baby powder when grooming.
It does help with the brushing and helps keep the matts to minimum.

Thank you all for your advice.I will try the baby powder.  Smiley I have a wire brush and a comb so i will and be a bit more patient working through the knots. My husband said he finds the knots harder working through than shaping the bichon coat.Gayaleen mitchell

I gently snip the matted areas with small surgical scissors.  If you do it correctly, you won't notice it.  It's a lot better than unsightly matted clumps  Smiley

I can't seem to get the knots out of my bichons hair. The knots form right against his skin and they are very hard to get out. He has very little patience for me to try and get them out and the groomers are so expensive.
Any ideas ???
