 New Here
 CANADA

I picked up my very first puppy, 8 week old Lexi, yesterday.  thumbup
So far it has been just as overwhelming and exhausting as I had imagined!
I came across this site looking for tips to help with the crate training process (specifically at night) and couldn't wait to sign up after. Thank you everyone for all your helpful information!!  Thanks

This is not my first experience with the breed. I grew up with a bichon, her name is Kelly, she just turned 14 in Feb, and is still as entertaining and fun to play with as ever. Even though she has started to lose her hearing pretty quickly in recent months, it dosen't seem to affect her activity level or quality of life.  original

I am now looking forward to having my very own bichon for the next decade at least!
The puppy phase is prooving to be very trying, no matter how much you read and prepare, it just never seems to quite prepare you for the real deal, but I'm sure that as the next few weeks and months go by things will get better, and I will definetly be looking on here for support and ideas!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Yes Thanks.
I just keep telling myself that everyday will get a little bit easier.
The crate training seems to be going ok, she likes it in there and will crawl in on her own.
I also have an exercise pen that I have the crate in, so that when I go to work she can have access to her bed, water and puppy pads (although she seems to prefer going outside, so i'll have to keep working on that)
She recently found a way to escape from the pen so I'm going to have to come up with a new plan for my little escape artist!!

I'll try and upload a pic, hopefully it works!!I have tried to attach other pics, but they are all apparently too big!!!!

Lexi is beautiful!!!  And I love her name!!!

I'm Amber, and Maxie is my 2 1/2 year old little girl.  We live in VA, at the beach...but Maxie doesn't much like the water.  (Neither do I...so we chill on the beach and just watch the waves from a distance.  Wink)

Can't wait to see more pictures and hear about Lexi's adventures!  Remember...the puppy stage doesn't last forever!  Enjoy her being so little!  Maxie never liked the puppy pads either (I only used them for a few weeks as a "just incase"...she has always gone outside).  We use a bell for her to ring when she wants to go out.  It was a great tool for us!

Welcome to you and Lexi.  What a sweetheart she is - so innocent and cute - what a charmer she is.  I loved the puppy stage as you are so exicted about all new things.  I am Andrea and my precious boy is Noah and we live in North Carolina.  We have a 16 year old cat who also lives with us.  Happy that you found us and look forward to watching Lexi grow.

She is a sweetie.  Love Eyes

Hi Leighann, I am Sherry and live in Northern Ontario with my wonderful crew of hubby, 3 sons, 2 bichons, 2 cats, 1 lab-mix and soon 2 rottweillers.

Our bichons are Halo and Ozzy.  We just love them to bits, just wish Denis trained Denis instead of the other way around.  Laughing

Aww Lexi is so sweet!  The puppy stage is tough and it seems to last so long!  But all the hard work at training pays off in the end. Good thing she likes the crate. Congratulations on  your new puppy!

Welcome!

I am Sarah, and my 12 week old fluff is Watson, we live in Ottawa Canada!

Your story sounds like mine, had a bichon as a child, he lived to 16.

Hang in there with the late night potty breaks etc. I wondered what I got myself into a few times, but I promise it doesn't take long to decide its totally worth all of the hard work. Smiley

Hey Leighann - I have a Lexi as well she turned 1 in feb and is a lil pest lol - lots of attitude on her!!!

Lexi knows when she is doing wrong (eating cat food, sleeping in babys moses basket, etc) and only does things the moment your back is turned and then runs out through the puppy flap to stop getting told off lol She is a total madam so i hope your Lexi is slightly better behaved
