Buddy on Guard

Denny squats, sort of spreads his legs and pees. The rescue think he is 1y old.

I don't remember exactly when Buddy learned, but I got him at 4 months and shortly after he was able to go out for walks (had to get his shots first), and he saw the older male dogs lifting their leg - he had to do it too. Poor little puppy, he often fell over at first!  Laughing But he was determined and he finally lifted his leg like a pro! wink1

So I am wondering why Denny is still squatting? He was around male dogs at the rescue foster home. Could it be that he was neutered so young? He has no visible scrotum, so the rescue said that meant they did it very early.

I guess it doesn't matter in the long run, I just wondered if it was something I needed to worry about? You know new mommies, always looking for something to worry about! Laughing

Love Bugs, Lia and Luigi

No need to worry, my Luigi has no visible scrotum and he was neutered at 8 months, so not early at all, and he didn't lift his leg until  a few months ago. Prior to getting neutered he started to mark, but by squatting  blink I thought he was deliberately peeing in the house, but it all stopped once he was neutered as I now realized he has preferred scents to mark on.
I noticed at the beginning of winter he would lift his leg to mark the snowblower cover as we had mice hidding under there, that has since become his place for his morning pee and he lifts his leg now, not very high, but it is a lift none the less. His afternoon/evening pee is in his designated area and he squats.
I had him to the vet today for his annuals and as we were in the room waiting for the vet to come in Luigi was having a good sniff around and around and around and I noticed he was walking oddly, looking closer I noticed he was marking, by lifting his back left paw ever so slightly and leaving a trail of pee. Silly boy!

Darwin was neutered at 5 1/2 months bc he was ready- humping like crazy, marking, etc. Believe it or not, this is when he learned to raise his leg. He had squatted up until the day of OR. After, he had alot of swelling (atypical response) that really 'shrank' his p*nis (I learned this word is not permitted here, lol) temporarily, and he was wetting on his underbelly. He hated that, so he stared raising his leg to straighten his flow and keep neat. So, I do think it has to do w/ anatomy. Maybe your boy just doesn't need to??

Thanks, sharing that info about  Luigi helps!

Chris - maybe you are right, maybe he just doesn't need to?

Noah is 9 months old and still squatting.  He was neutered early as my vet believes in early neutering.  He was between 4-5 months old.  I do not mind his squatting but he does something pee on his feet and then he has to be washed, so I am no help.  Still waiting. thinking

Mattie (female) started lifting her leg at 18 months, LOL!  My friend's male poodle was 14 months.  I remember because we were taking a walk together and both burst out laughing because he actually fell over when he tried to do it!  It's like they all of a sudden realize that they should be leaving their scent when they smell others.  A little light bulb goes off and they start marking.  Mattie has to mark every spot that Sassy pees on!  MaryEllen
