AAAAGGGGHHHHH!   Love my pup but he is driving us insane!!  He had his neutering on Monday.  I picked him up Tuesday morning.  He was tired but looked really good. Dr. said he didn't need anything to keep him from licking since he seemed to leave it alone. Well, that changed as he woke up more and more throughout the day. Returned to the vets and they put some 4 inch wide collar like thing around his neck that wrapped under one front leg and this was supposed to work.  It didn't, he could still reach just fine.  Returned to vet again this morning and exchanged collar for the traditional cone. Again, got home and he could still reach!!!  It seems he isn't really bothering with the incision site just the scrotal sac.  They are blood red and look very irritated.  I am returning to vets this afternoon to refund the cone and am sending hubby to Target after work for a onsie.  Don't know if this will work but vet has no helpful advice anymore and besides wrapping his hind end or muzzling him I don't know what else to do!!  If he's not licking than he is rubbing his hind end on my carpet!!! Vet says that white dogs are so skin sensitive and she thinks that is the problem but if he keeps licking he could turn it into a hot spot and possible infection.  Anyone have any other suggestions as to licking problems?????

The onsie is the best idea, with a firm NO LICK! But purchase two and wash and dry them right away so that the starch/sizing of the fabric doesn't irritate him more. Mild dishsoap and lots of rinsing will do, then toss them in the clothes dryer.
You can also try applying an ice cube to the area, as coolness/freezing dulls the sensation of itch and pain.
Once you have the onsie's ready you can also use a small dab of baby medicated ointment, or medicated gold bond, then put him in his onsie and offer him a new chew stick to distract him.
I hope your poor boy is feeling better soon.  comfort

Use the onesie but pad that area by using a Kotex pad that has tapes so it sticks on.  That way when he rubs the carpet, he still can't irritate the sacs.  He will probably go nuts trying to rub, but the onesie with the Kotex should stop him.  My little girl bichon is just getting over surgery for bladder stones.  She had her stitches out yesterday and is very itchy.  I'm doing the Kotex in the onesie so she can't scratch her incision with a hind foot.  Best of luck!  MaryEllen

When Noah was neutered, the vet said the same thing about him probably not licking the incision.  He did not bother it when he was still at the vet, but as soon as he got home, he started licking. Got him one of the collars of shame, but he was able to manuever himself around and could still lick himself.  Got a larger collar and it finally worked.  Wish I had known about the onies as that would have really been the ticket.  We finally got through his licking after almost 2 weeks with the collar on.  Hope that the onies works for your baby  fluff  Hopefully he will be well soon.

Some of my friends in the UK have used something like in the link below  just wondering if it may work for you.
My friends did say it was easier for the dog to lay down and was more comfortable than the cone version.

Poor baby, makes you wonder some times doesn't it, if some vets do a better job than others or something.  Riley never bothered with his, so we didn't need anything.  I think the others suggestions sound worth a go though, good luck

Just an update.  Used the baby onsie overnight and Rascal seemed to do good.  I work nightshift so when I got home he was already up with my husband who said he took it off and went potty. I checked the site and all looked well.  Hubby left for work, kids for school, and I put onsie back on him and put him in his crate so I could sleep. Awoke 4 hours later to check on him and found he had somehow opened the snaps and upon inspection HE HAD LICKED SO MUCH HIS STITCHES WERE GONE.  Yes, gone.  Called the vet, took him in, and fortunately he actually was okay.  Skin was staying closed still so they didn't need to restitch.  Wound up getting a cone which was one size too big but on the smallest bottom snap and with the top duct taped it stayed on.  I have the next couple days off thank goodness, so he only will have to wear it at night, except he can't fit in the crate now so is now in our bed!!!  But at least I can keep a better eye on him now!! During the day I take it off and just watch him well.  What a fiasco this has been!!  But he's so worth it!!!  told my hubby we'll laugh about this one day!!

Awwww poor tyke, the stitches must have REALLY bugged him.  Fortunately it sounds like he's a quick healer  clapping   I'm guessing you've lost the battle, too, now that you've let him in your bed...  Laugh Hysterical

Good luck over the next few days, sounds like you'll do well being able to watch him closely!

Goodness you have not had it easy! Ella was also a licker and we didn't use anything to stop her so I worried my head off, but things were ok. I always wished that I knew about onesies then but it seems they aren't foolpoof.  LOL!

I remember bringing Jess my cat home from being spayed. She went behind the settee and before we could get her out she pulled all her stitches out less than an hour after being home.Thank goodness my vet does a tiny incision on the side to spay a cat and when I rang him he said all would be ok and it was. They are such a nightmare!!!! Glad that you are off the next frew days as he should be healed enough by then.  Noah did not have stitches, but the glue.  I guess it pulls some - like the stitches- hope that your baby is healed soon and you are right you and DH will be laughing about this one day.
