Been to the vet.  Injury He's very pleased with Abby'd knee. cheerleader

I thought she looked a bit stiff running in the park a couple of weeks ago but couldn't see quite why.
He said she's running properly on her operated leg and only on the toes of her other one.He said she'd probably be fine like that, but if anything ever happened to her right leg like a break she would be imobile and there's still the risk the unoperated knee will get much worse so we decided to go for it on 25th!!!
I know its the right decision this time.  thumbup

We went to the lake ( the swans were so aggressive today!!!) and when she was ahead of me I could see just what he meant.I have to think it's straining her hip being uneven too. It's more prominant now as one leg is as it should be,and has shown as she's healed.

He said recovery may well be slower as she won't have to force it,but she should seem a lot less distressed than last time. bouquet

The fact she hid how bad it was pre surgery is a big factor in the decision  as he said she could be hiding discomfort now in the unoperated leg Crying

I think it's good that you can see the need for surgery so that you are not second guessing yourself about the decision.   nodding  Just think how wonderful it will be when you can watch her using both both legs without any pain.   fluff

I know that you will not regret the decision to have her surgery now.  At least by the spring, her baby leg should be better and she can enjoy the beautiful weather and romps in the park.  At least you know what to expect this time and hopefully she will recover as well as the first time.   Love word to you and your baby  fluff Abby.

What an AWESOME Mommy you are!!!   cheerleader  You are taking the PROactive route and addressing something before it has the potential to become an emergency!!!  We're guessing it WILL be a LOT less stressful for both of you this time around.  nodding  We'll hold you both in prayer starting NOW!!!   Flex

What an amazing Spring it will be for you watching her walk/run normally on BOTH legs!!!  We think an Easter Egg Hunt should be in planned in her honor!!!

Thanks everyone. My biggest fear before was if I would be able to manage to acheive all the restrictions and look after as well as I wanted to.We did,not 100% ,but as much as humanly possible and will again. At least this is the last time and as she gets better it will be for good.It was heart breaking knowing we'd have to do it all again next time. Her birthday is on April 12th,so won't be quite over by then so we'll have a massive day out a bit later.Easter egg hunt sounds good !!!!Alison

Just  grouphug.  Although told Titch's other cruciate was not good we have not gone down the route you have chosen.  It is really hard to know what to do for best and you have to take the advice offered by the vet. Best wishes

Seeing what the vet described for myself on the walk afterward confirmed it was right to follow his advice.
I'd so have loved to leave it,but no choice. The vet told us there would be too much damage and ulceration in the joint to do it later if we leave it.We are so lucky to have such an expert so close by.
My Westie Connie ruptured a cruciate ligament and did just fine without surgery so hopefully Titch's will improve with time.Alison

Sorry for any confusion - our vet advised us not to do anything with the remaining leg.  That was what I meant -  you have to follow the advice offered. What else can you do?  Hopefully for us expert enough.
Pam

What happened to my quotes - seem most odd.  Sorry

You always knew that there was a good probability that Abby would need the surgery on the other leg Alison, so this is a good thing that in your heart of hearts you know it is the right thing to do. Also having had the previous experience you have displaced the fears of after surgery care. The unpleasant ordeal will pass and this time next year you'll look back and wonder how you did it, but you'll be joyous in the fact that it was so very worth it!
I'll be thinking of you both!  comfort
