I was reading some off-topic chat about this in another thread, and thought I'd respond by starting a new topic so everyone can reference it more easily.

The Puppia style harnesses (Four Paws and other off brands make similar ons as well) only adjust at the belly strap, so if your dog is particularly deep chested it may be difficult to get a perfect fit. Bluebell is 15lbs and wears a Large (sized all the way down on the belly strap). Azra is about 6lbs and wears a Small.

Thanks for the information Danielle  yahoo We are looking for a new harness for Jemma I see you can order those online direct from the company. Are these one's easy to adjust/put on? The harness we have for Jemma is really hard to get on & hard to tighten up so it fits her properly  frustrated

I don't use Ella's Puppia Harness as much as I would like to because she is not keen on having something pulled over her head. She has a size medium. Does anyone else have this problem? original

I ordered one for Bella, and went for the vest style because its adjustable behind the neck with a clip, and around the abdomen with velcro. I too was worried about the normal harness style that pulls over the head not fitting properly. I also had a #^$%#@ of a time working out her size because different websites had different measurements. I ended up picking a medium (she's 8.8lbs). Some sites had sizes XS,S M L XL, and others just S,M,L.

Will see when it arrives. Hard to buy Puppia in Australia

Maddy has a Puppia harness, I think i ordered small?? I measured her anyway, and when the harness arrived it was too big, so I stitched it to make it fit better.

Maddy doesnt like it going over her head either, but she is so much more comfortable when going for a walk. She never reverse sneezes when she is wearing it. Wih a collar I have to stop and pick her up every few minutes, so a harness definately works well for Maddy. I just didnt manage to get the sizing right.

Abby doesn't like it going over her head, but it does slip on quickly. They do do one with adjustable shoulder straps that can be opened ( I think ).I haven't tried it myself though.Alison

Mine have no issues with being dressed. They're both quite used to me doing al sorts of "strange" things to them.

I have not tried other styles of this harness, though a look back at the photos on my desktop show me that Schnoppy's new harness has the extra adjuster strap? Maybe Ken can weigh in for us. I only use these for the seatbelt (not for walking) so I don't plan to buy more soon. I have seen other companies' versions of the soft harness, and some are more adjustable then others. I figured I'd post this up with the picture as a sort of reference so you could see how it fits.

Claire, are you sure it was  small? The small fits Azra quite snuggly. I would think Maddy would find herself between the small and the medium (Schnoppy wears a medium).

I like 2 different harnesses (I have both).  The first is Guardian Gear 2-step harness.  You put the dog's two front feet in and snap it on top of the back (very easy once you've adjusted it to fit perfectly). You can see or order it here:
http://www.petedge.com/product/Guardian-Gear-Nylon-Two-Step-Harnesses-Brite-Colors/46042.uts

The second is the Rope'n'Go harness.  There is no metal or clip of any kind on this one.  You adjust it by moving the slip knots.  Once adjusted it goes on kind of like the step in harness and you slip the knot on top to secure it.  See it here:

Sassy has a lot of trouble with the choking sneeze (reverse sneeze) and both of these harnesses work very well.   MaryEllen

I really cant remember Danielle. It fits well around her middle, but was too large around her neck. Daisy chewed the clasp anyway, so I think I'm gonna have to get her another one.

Mine arrived today. The clip around the neck is not adjustable so it wouldn't help with the fit  No luckily its OK. The medium is a little loose around Bella's neck but still fine. The velcro on the back means you can control the fit there quite well. Bella is 4kg/8.8lbs.

She's not sure about it yet.

Thanks Kerry, I think I have seen that one advertised as a soft harness. I just love the pink and Bella looks gorgeous. It is a completely different design to the style called spring that I have.

So many choices  confused It would be great to be able to go into a shop and try them - otherwise its like trying to buy shoes or jeans for your hu-kids. Yes, you know how big they are but that doesn't necessarily help when different brands and styles mean different fits.
