God it makes me feel like crying. Why do people do this? That little fluff didn't ask to come into this world.

Wow! I can't believe you're going to go get her! How wonderful for the sweet girl! I try not to judge these people too harshly. She did look well groomed, and she's UTD on shots and such. I think this seems like a case of getting in over their heads. 1 yr old can be a difficult age. Shawn often gets frustrated with Buster. I poo-poo him and go on, no one's taking my baby from me, no way, no how! But maybe these people just can't handle a rambunctous puppy who's probably having problems potty training. Better for them to find her another home than to leave her out in the yard alone or worse, start hitting her. Don't get me wrong, its a sad situation, but I'm not ready to crucify these people just yet. Can't wait to see coming home pics of Chloe's new big sis!

She is a lucky girl that you DID read the ad! I hope you get her. It is so sad to see this happen. Some people just don't understand the commitment they are making when they get a puppy. It is very upsetting! MaryEllen

I sent that person an email. I can't take this dog, I hope Rissa gets her.
Here's my email... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I beg you to please use caution when picking someone to take your beautiful little fluffer.
The people that search craigslist for free dogs usually get them to use as training for their pitbull dog fights. Which means the free dog is tossed in the ring for the pit bulls to practice on.
Another scenario is lab workers that need unwanted dogs to use for medical experiments.
Please be sure you're giving your sweet bichon to a real family that will love her and spoil her like all dogs should be.
Thanks for your time, and good luck to you and that sweet angel of a bichon.

Terri, that was an amazingly well written email! It was very informational while not at all offensive. If they don't pay attention to that, they're morons. Then again, they are giving away a bichon puppy... So Rissa, how did it go??? Info please!!!

Thanks you guys, I'm not saying that every single person who inquires about a free dog is evil like that, but I think if there's even one person with that awful plan in mind is one too many.
I hate craigslist. (that's my personal feeling)

I replied but no reply yet. I told them that I have Chloe already so I am educated about Bichons, and that I would be willing to drive to pick her up because I do live about 4 hours away. I also said that I am pretty much a stay at home mom so i have lots of time to give her extra lovies. I hope that I sound appealing. I think that chloe might like to have a big sister... then she would have someone to play with when the kids are in school

I just sent another response to the add... here is what it said: Hello, My name is Rissa. I found your add about your beautiful female Bichon on Craigslist, and I was wondering if you have found her a forever home yet. I live in Broken Bow, which is about 4 hours away from Linclon, but I could drive to come pick her up. I responded to your add yesterday but I am not sure if you received it, so I decided to send a second letter just to be sure. I am a stay-at-home mommy, with three kids that all love our Bichon, Chloe, to pieces. Chloe is 4 months old now, and I am sure that she would just love to have a big sister. I am very well educated on Bichons, as I did research on them for months before adopting Chloe. I would love to know more about your Bichon, and look forward to talking to you soon! If you would like, you can reach me on my personal Cell phone, in case you have any questions that you would like to ask me. My phone number is xxx-xxx-xxxx Thanks so much for your time and again, I look forward to talking with you. Rissa I really hope that I didnt forget anything. I HATE waiting.... I need some patience... and I need them NOW lol

Best Rissa. It's a wonderful thing you are trying to do and a terrific letter. I hope the Craiglister gets their act together soon and truly desires a wonderful home for their young fluff.
Again, wishing you the best.

Wow! So much to comment on... First of all, I don't think Craigslist allows live animals to be posted in our area, only accessories such as crates, leashes and the like, so I am surprised to read this ad. I am more surprised to read Terri's comments, that would never of occurred to me either! Rissa, If you don't get this pup, I'm sure you will find another pup soon enough, because you mentioned that you keep looking. I was that way until I got Lia, I have stopped looking now. Good Luck!

Good luck Rissa that young lady certainly needs your help. You have this uncanny knack of rescueing dogs. The poodle last week and now the bichon. Terri horrified by your post. Poor little mites.

Good luck, Rissa! Oh I hope you hear soon!!!! I feel the same way about craigslist, Terri. We get tons of pets listed daily. (Anyone who wants, just go to the site and pull up Rhode Island, then go to pets.) You are so right about the free ones, and even the $50 and under. We have the same worries about the cats and other pets on there. The kittens often end up as python dinner.

Sandie...I just can't believe someone would use a kitten for python food. There are frozen lab rodents and pieces of meat for that. Anyone doing something like that is total sick _____k. It would make me absolutely crazy to see, or hear about it. It brings back very bad memories of dogs and primates being used for lab work at UC Davis. Gosh...sometimes I wonder how we evolved to these levels of cruelty. Ken - Saddened at times to be a Human

I'm glad that you tried. Anyone wishing to give up such a darling pup has to be a 'flako' of the first order. I hope the pup went to a good family who are the polar opposites of someone so willing to give up a pup so easily. Bummer. The Human
