Not sure Chistine,   sad ive never had a problem with Lucy in the car,   original she loves it,   thumbup maybe it's because Ramsays not sure where he's going,  thinking he may think he's going to the vet or something,   thinking Im sure the more he goes out in the car the better he will get.   thumbup Hope it improves soon  thumbup

Hi Christine,
You're not alone. From the start i've always taken my 2 in the car and Lucy has always whined-on the way there. Even when i used to visit my mum almost every day (and Lucy loves my mum) she would whine. Yet on the way home she lies down and is fine. I think she is just anxious going in the car-not that i can think of anything bad that happened when she was young.
Once we reach a point in the journey she recognises then the whining stops  Laughing
It drives me daft at times though  shhh

My dogs only come in the car with me when it is a trip for them (well, going to the vet IS for them, but don't count that, lol).  So they have learned that, and they are quite excited to learn which park, meet up, back yard etc. we are heading for.  Lacey sits on my left leg and studies the scenery trying to figure it out before we arrive, whining, muttering and singing the whole way!

Yup nodding, Bianca whines expresses her excitement hyper often in the car .... especially when we're nearing our destination.  I swear she recognizes places.... and even knows the way to her favorite places.

PS: Christine, I'm moving sorcerer your thread to the [Behavior & Training] board, since it's about Ramsay's "whiney" wink1 behavior.

blush Mine  Love word coming with us in the car .. the only time they get upset is if we hafta leave 'em in there for a second!  Laughing  thinking Maybe you could "desensitize" him by taking "baby steps" with the car rides, Christine. flowers  You know.. like just have him come sit in the car.. love him up embrace and give him a treat.. then after that's mastered  graduate .. take a short drive, repeat love/treats.. etc. flowers ... I did something similiar when my boys were scared  scared of the vacuum.. and now they follow  hyper us all over the house when we vacuum 'cause they think they are going to get treats wacko Laughing !!

wave help2 Is it a sign of distress ~ my driving is very good.

Laughing Sorry, that made me laugh thinking of our fluffs being scared of our driving! Laughing ... thinking I'm kinda shocked Max  manfro and Buddy  clown don't whine about mine!  Laughing

Little Luna Lovegood

« Reply #9 on: February 24, 2009, 07:14:57 PM »

No whining here. Luna was scared of the car at first, but I would coax her in with a treat and now she jumps in whenever there's a chance. (Sometimes I have to go around to open the door and take her back out! Then she gets whiney.   Rolled Eyes )  Now if we don't go "far enough" for her, say we are just picking up a kid at school, she wouldn't willingly get out. We do drive a couple times a week to a friends house to start our walks, and she knows when we are getting close and starts to smile and get ready.

Good thing Luna is resting up from her vaccines today, cause she isn't reading about how Jake's flirting with all those woman.  whistling

Dispatch once whined and cried for 650 miles of a 700 mile trip, the only time he was quiet was going through Memphis TN, maybe he knew Mommy was a little stressed then, he'd already spilled a cup of coffe on me and I had no changes of clothes with me that were quick to get to.  IF I let him sit on my leg all would be fine.  Terri said in another thread bichons are determined, I call it stubborn fluffglare.  I used to let Dispatch sit on my lap (he was so tiny he got lost in our king cab truck when he was a baby so therefore the lap) and he has never quit trying to ride like that and it's just not safe when I'm driving.  He knows do you wanna go back home and do you want to get in the back, that works for maybe a minute and then he's inching toward my lap. My car has buttons near the gearshift on the console between the seats, snow mode and sport mode, he often pushes them........  I need to get the car seat back out, I have been making him ride in back lately.

Love these stories.  Charlie never whined but then I didn't take him with me all that much.  He was a terror if anyone approached the car, and would chase my mom's cats, so I quit taking him there.

I used to take Scruffy with me a lot.  He liked mom's cats so didn't harrass them like Charlie did.  But every time we got anywhere near her house, he would know it and start bouncing around and whining.  He never did it when we were going anywhere else, and didn't do it on the way home.

Fiona whines in the car, but then I just crack the windows and she is fine, until I cut the engine, and she barks her head off, every time.  Even when we have arrived home and she knows I'm about the let her out.  It is really distressing actually.  The barking is super loud and high-pitched and I don't even like taking her placed with me anymore.  For instance, I like to take her to the pet store with me, and then run an errand or two at Target, etc. which requires me leaving her in the car, and she just gets so upset that it upsets me.  Any suggestions?

Darwin gets carsick like Jake on longer, winding road trips. None the less, he will be much more upset if we leave in the car without him, so he doesn't complain- much. Wink

Maybe try an elevated carseat? I think it may make him feel more secure, if that's the issue.

Both Bella and Buddy LOVE car rides BUT Bella likes to be on the seat (we now use a harness connected to the seat belt for her) and Buddy actually prefers to be in his carrier which I don't understand because he can't see anything!! I guess he likes the lulling motion of the ride because he climbs right in and gets all comfy! They have both been in the car since they were babies and are pretty used to it but when they see us approach the park they both get loud and excited (I guess Bella tells Buddy since he can't see but starts talking anyway!!

Noah loves to ride in the car.  He has a really nice car seat which he rides in for a while, then  he sits on the back of it or on the console.  He is buckled in so I know that he is safe.  He whines when we get close to daycare and starts jumping around = he also does this when we go to visit my daughter and family and my mother.  It is like he knows where he is and gets excited.
